Wiert Kolkman studied Chemistry at Saxion University of Applied Sciences and later earned his Master’s degree in Molecular Chemistry from Radboud University. After graduating in August 2023, he briefly worked as a Junior Researcher in a joint project between the Functional Metabolomic lab and the Boltje Research Group at Radboud University. This project focussed on the elucidation of the metabolic pathway of a newly discovered stress response metabolite of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In April 2024, he began his PhD under the supervision of Martin Gotthardt, Dennis Löwik, and Sanne van Lith. His doctoral research focuses on the design, synthesis and characterisation of novel photosensitizers specifically designed for the usage in targeted photodynamic therapy in the treatment of congenital hyperinsulinism.
