Mark Rijpkema
Mark Rijpkema studied chemistry at the Radboud University of Nijmegen, where he graduated in 1996 with majors in pharmacology and microbiology. After graduation he started his PhD at the department of Radiology of the University Medical Center Nijmegen, in close collaboration with the department of Radiotherapy. He obtained his doctoral degree in 2003 with his thesis „MR imaging and MR spectroscopy to guide treatment selection for patients with tumours in the brain and head-neck region“. Subsequently, he worked as a postdoc at the Radboud University of Nijmegen and the University of Utrecht. In 2006, he moved back to Nijmegen to work at the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience of the Donders Institute, where he started a research line investigating the genetic underpinnings of brain structure and function, in close collaboration with the Human Genetics department. In 2011 he returned to the field of oncology at the department of Medical imaging, Nuclear medicine, where he was appointed associate professor in 2018. His research on molecular imaging in translational research has a strong focus on intraoperative fluorescence imaging and multimodal image-guided surgery.
