Daan Boreel studied biology at Leiden University, following the track Animal Biology and Health in his masters. After his graduation in 2018 he started a PhD in 2019 at the department of Radiation Oncology in collaboration with the department of Medical Imaging. Under supervision of Jan Bussink, Gosse Adema, Paul Span and Sandra Heskamp, he is working on the metabolic reprogramming of cancer cells to alleviate tumor hypoxia, a major factor in radio- and immunotherapy resistance in cancer. Another part of the project will focus on SPECT imaging of CAIX, an endogenous hypoxia marker.
